'Plein Air' art show at the Grove Farm Museum

on saturday Ashley, her friend kathy and i went to a "Plein Air" (painting in the outdoors) opening at a historic sugar plantation started in 1864. beautiful old wood buildings . . . office house, managers house, worksers houses and of course the main house. not ostentacious, they were Congregationalists after all, but what a glimpse of what life must have been like. 3 wilcox brothers started it and when the last 2 daughters died their will dictated that the property and contents (terrific) were to be turned into a museum about plantation and island life. it now requires another trip for me to take a really good look-see with a guide.

the kauai first 'plein air invitational'  -  see (http://www.grovefarm.net/kauaipleinair/) for all of the artist included.

my favorite was 'susie anderson'. i couldn't see where there was any judging, i believe it was a fund raiser only. the artists spent the week painting around the island at different spots, sometimes en-mass, other times they would just go to a site they chose. the last day the were given 2 hours to complete a painting anywhere on the island they chose, as long as it did not take any more than 2 hours. not in my league. and of course they were all in oil. it was very inspirational for all of us. kathy who is an abstract painter sometimes feels a little left out here as most painters are doing island stuff, but maybe getting out to a show will get her started. i know how good it is to have quiet time and no interruptions to get me working. and of course getting a class in with marionette.

here are some pictures of just a fragment of the Museum, as i was more interested in the paintings at the time.
