the day - friday - was going well, we had just finished lunch and were heading off to finish doing our looky-loo of the town of Kapaa when the last step was not there and down janet went. FACE first onto the sidewalk. :-0 we still are not sure if the nose is broken but her face is sure scrapped up. no teeth broken or such. but what a fall. it was just 3 inches or so to the sidewalk but the safety strip was worn away and she missed it. thinking your footing is secure is enough to have anyone take a tumble when you claim air and not solid ground! it was like the ground opened up and tried to swallow her.
a very kind hawaiian woman with 4 small children stayed with us until the EMS arrived, and then because janet did not think she needed to go in the vehicle to the emergency room with sirens wailing this woman, Eleanor, led us to the hospital. come to find out she was taking her 20 month old there because he was running a fever.
well it turns out that janet had to get 5 stitches on the bridge of her nose. right at the nose piece for glasses. aghhhhhhhhhhh. of course we were in the ER room immediately as everyone was at the beach, and we got the best care you can get! Dr Burris it turns out is from NC and went to Wake Forest U for under graduate, UNC chapel hill for graduate and Loma Linda CA for residency. he is buds with Ashley's neighbor accross the street who is also an emergency room doctor and did his residency with dr burris at loma linda. small world, since janet is near loma linda herself. they also x-rayed janet's knee, as she fell on that also, just to be sure. this sure did take the wind out of us for the rest of the day.

now for some pictures before the accident . . . we went thursday nite to the opening of the Hawaiian Festival and did a little craft viewing, some noshing, listened to music and dance, and had intermittent rain. dancing still went on while we all ran for tents. we may get to the closing tomorrow, sunday. depends on how janet feels.
